Profile

Professor Mengesha Admassu is a RENOWNED ETHIOPIAN PUBLIC HEALTH EXPERT with
over 48 years of experience in teaching, research, and leadership. He is a full professor of
public health, Emeritus Professor of the University of Gondar (UoG), and pioneer initiator of the
Master Card Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) at UoG. He is also the Co-founder of the
UoG Community School.

Professor Mengesha has PUBLISHED AND REVIEWED more than 60 several research
papers, textbooks, lecture notes, modules, and an autobiography book. He is a member of the
Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, a life member of the Ethiopian Public Health Association, vice
chair of the General Assembly of the Ethiopian Public Health Association, a life member of the
Ethiopian Red Cross Association, and board chair of the Ethiopian Red Cross Association for
the Gondar branch.

In his past PROFESSIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCES, Professor Admassu has served as
a senior advisor at the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ethiopian Academy of Sciences(EAS);
He served as a senior advisor at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MOSHE);

Founding and Executive Director of the International Institute for Primary Health Care in
Ethiopia (IIFPHC); President of the University of Gondar, Ethiopia; Vice President for Business
& Development of the UOG, and Academic and Research Director of Gondar College Medical
Sciences (GCMS) in the UOG.

Professor Admassu has RECEIVED numerous awards for his outstanding contributions to
public health in Ethiopia. These include: Certificate of recognition for advisory committee
member of the American International Health Alliance-Twining Center (AIHA-TC) Ethiopia, on
November 28, 2017; Certificate of Recognition and Gold Medal Award for Securing Project
Fund entitled: “Master Card Foundation scholarship program in University of Gondar”, on
December 31, 2016; Best Leadership Gold and Crystal Award by the University of Gondar, in
October 2016; Certificate of Appreciation for strong commitment, and long and outstanding
Service in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Gondar, on June 7, 2014;
Certificate of Appreciation by LIGHT FOR THE WORLD Wishes to acknowledge the enormous
contribution to the establishment of the eye hospital at the University of Gondar, which was
supported by Vienna, Austria, on April 11, 2011; Awarded certificate on successfully completing
all of the requirements for “GH 521: Global Health Program Management and Leadership”, a
graduate-level distance learning course offered by the University of Washington, on June 30,
2011; Certificate of recognition on the “Higher Education Management Programme” by the
